Planet D'earth: Kait Dunton + John D'earth

“Kait Dunton’s new quartet album revolves around ‘Planet D’earth’…Themes of gratitude, inspiration, human connection reverberate…

Planet D’earth is what you’d call stacked. But Kait Dunton’s new quartet album is not about showing off. It’s about giving thanks. The Feb. 8, 2019 Real & Imagined Music release features Grammy®-winning Yellowjackets tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer on three superb tracks, electric bassist Dane Alderson, also with the Yellowjackets, Dunton’s percussionist husband Jake Reed (TrioKAIT), and veteran hard bop/post-bop trumpeter/flugelhornist John D’earth, at the center of it all.
D’earth is not your average sideman booked on another recording project. He’s a big deal — a composer of some renown, having put together music for Bruce Hornsby, the Kronos String Quartet, and the Dave Matthews Band, not to mention significant orchestral works. He also played with Buddy Rich, Clark Terry, Miles Davis and Quincy Jones, Tito Puente, Lionel Hampton, and John Scofield, to mention just a few…

The 10-track album is essentially an ode to D’earth, the album’s namesake — the one who changed Dunton’s life forever.

If not for trumpeter John D’earth, Kait Dunton (trioKAIT) might never have become a professional musician. So it’s only appropriate that her sixth album, Planet D’earth, is both a collaboration with and a musical letter of gratitude to the man who changed the trajectory of her life.
