Meet the Artist - David Foster Evans

Art and music is always a fine blend. Join us at PoP to meet the artist, David Foster Evans, Painter and Musician. Entertainment by Gamelan Master Eru Rukandi.

David received his MBA in Fine Arts Painting in Oshkosh ,Wisconsin as a student of Joanne Kindt, who studied under Action Painter Franz Kline. Music called so he played guitar and crashed parties
in Oshkosh in a guerrilla blues party duo. He came to Santa Barbara California in the 80’s, and the painting concentrated on matters of composition and color theory, searching for a “through the looking-glass” effect that reacted against trompe l’oil realism. While painting shows in Santa Barbara, David performed in several notable Reggae bands, songwriting and playing guitar in the storied Isla Vista party band ,The One Heart Band, in protest band Ray-Gun, (who performed many benefit protests to raise awareness to the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant.. that band then became Das Beat), in Lover’s Rock heroes Jah-B-One, and the experimental Dub Style unit Dub Factor.
David located to begin again in Grover Beach and many of these paintings are reflections of the young family and home that has now reached maturity. At that time he was given 5 separate solo shows at Linnea’s in San Luis Obispo. Now shifted to Celtic music, David helped to create the trad Big Band “Hear the Darlings Roar”, and is the songwriter, Vocalist , Octave Mandolinist and Guitarist for the Gillie Wheesels, and duo MacMasters and Johnson. He’s working on a solo cd at this time. This retrospective of painting represents a taking stock of a visual journey that is not yet ended. David’s paintings are in collections across the country, and works are in the permanent collection of the Green Bay Museum of Art. A collection of large scale paintings are in a semi-permanent hanging at the offices of TMHA in San Luis Obispo. He’s planning on a show of large scale paintings in San Luis Obispo later in the year.
